Instagram Videos on PC & Mac: The Complete Download Guide

A computer is the best place to manage downloaded Instagram videos: you can organise them into folders, check their quality properly, and drop them straight into an editor. No software installation is needed.

The method is the browser method. Copy the video link from instagram.com, paste it into a video downloader, and save the MP4. On Windows it lands in Downloads; on Mac it lands in Downloads too, unless you changed Safari or Chrome's setting to ask each time.

To check a file's quality on Windows, right-click it and open Properties, then Details. On Mac, select it and press Command-I. You will see the resolution and file size — the two numbers that tell you whether you got the full-quality original.

For editing, MP4 is the friendliest format there is. Free editors on both platforms open it natively, and you can trim, add text or combine clips without converting anything first.

One desktop-specific tip: if a download opens in a new tab instead of saving, right-click the video and choose Save Video As. That single workaround fixes the most common desktop complaint, and it works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari alike.
